Fishermen hit by Vinta in Lanao receives supplies

Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that he has given over 160 fishing boats with gears to fisherman in Lake Lanao on Friday. He also stated that he led the seeding of the lake with two million tilapia fingerlings after the destruction of Vinta.


In his statement, Sec. Piñol said that he had been visiting the areas that was hit by the Tropical Storm "Vinta" in Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur since December 22.


The Department of Agriculture (DAR) provided assistance to the people who solely depend on agriculture for their living, in this case, the fishermen of Lanao.


Piñol said he distributed the boats to Lanao del Sur and went to Lala, Lanao del Norte for a caucus with the local officials, farmers and fishermen on Thursday.


By the end of his statement he added that the fishermen in Zamboanga del Sur received P3.66 million worth of gill nets, hooks and lines, and squid jiggers while the fishermen in Zamboanga del Norte received P9 million worth of seaweeds and materails for fish processing for 903 people and 21 peoples' organization.
